The View from Below the Poverty Line
It's a less-than-rosy life for many of our neighbors. Will you be part of the solution?
We might be known as The White Rose City, but for far too many of our people, life is anything but rosy. In the 17401 zip code alone, more than one in four people live below the federal poverty line, unable to make ends meet. Throughout York County, one in ten of our neighbors is below that line.
Many try to live on minimum wages, or just above it... but it's never nearly enough. People like Jessica, a single mother of two, often work two or more jobs to try to support their families...but still find themselves falling behind on expenses. They're often faced with an impossible choice: Do I pay rent? Or do I buy food for my family? Meanwhile...
Almost 1 in 5 children (19.1%) in York County faces the prospect of going to bed hungry tonight.
Hunger. Homelessness. Hopelessness. Where will these neighbors turn for help?
The York Rescue Mission has been meeting these needs for more than half a century. In addition to addressing physical needs, we also serve our struggling neighbors emotionally, practically, and spiritually. The ultimate goal is transformation from the inside out.
But we can't do it without the help of a compassionate community. And that includes you.
Will you join us on the journey by supporting the York Rescue Mission today?
